“Spring Awakening” took the Broadway stage by storm in 2006 and is not done. The musical has won 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2007.
“Spring Awakening” is set in 1891 Germany and looks at the struggles teenagers face with their identity, sexuality and morality.
The main characters include Melchior, a brilliant student constantly questioning what he is told; his friend Moritz who learns about puberty; and Wendla, a young woman discovering her sexuality.
The young cast keeps the energy up as they blast rock and roll vocals across the stage. Everything about the musical from the choreography to the lighting and set design creates a sense of passion that enthralls the audience.
This musical makes people laugh, cry, and dance in their seats. “Spring Awakening” is currently on its national tour until January 2009.
Several PLU students attended the musical in Seattle and are still raving about the performance.
