Barack Obama has been announced as the winner and the 44th President of the United States. At roughly 8 p.m. Pacific Time, 11 p.m. Eastern Time, CNN projected Obama had received the 270 Electoral votes needed to secure the presidency. Shortly after, John McCain took the stage for his concession speech where he congratulated Obama and urged his supporters to stand behind Obama and accept him as the next president. At close to 9 p.m. Pacific Time, President elect Barack Obama addressed the crowd in Chicago and the nation. Thanking everyone for their support, including his wife and entire campaign and American people. After which the families of both Obama and Biden took the stage in front of a cheering crowd.
All across the United States celebration broke out when the news of his win was annouced. News cameras captured Jesse Jackson in tears and a ecstatic in Chicago and in front of the White House in D.C.
With Missouri, Montana, Indiana and North Carolina still unreported the current Electoral vote total stands as follows. Obama with 338 and McCain with 156.
